How We Met by Rob
For those of you that know me, you might've never have guessed that this day would come, but it has. It started when the decision was made that I would be moving back to Oregon from Montana. One of my best friends Rob Lindsay was getting married and not only was I in his wedding party, but he had a pre-landscaping project at his home he needed help with.
So I loaded the trailer and headed west to stay at Rob and his fiancée Trisa's home. While there, I noticed a picture on their fridge of a group of women at Trisa's bachelorette party. One happened to catch my eye, and I asked Trisa who she was. She replied that it was her cousin Nancy. I then inquired if she was married or available. Trisa informed me that Nancy wasn't married, but that no one really liked her current boyfriend. Of course I had to meet Nancy.
Nancy and my first meeting was the rehearsal dinner for Rob and Trisa's wedding. When I saw Nancy, I was quite impressed; she looked pretty good in jeans. She had just got into the food line so I happened to slide in right behind her. We struck up a conversation, and she invited me to join her at her table.
Little did I know, she was accompanied by a gentleman named Mark who I assumed was her boyfriend. We all sat and talked, and while I was talking to Mark, I thought that he didn't seem so bad, but she'd invited me to sit them so I'd better bring my A-game as the competition was seated next to me.
We had a nice time, and I excused myself to track down Trisa and find out the skinny. When I asked Trisa about Mark, she laughed for a long time. I couldn't figure out what was so funny: turned out that Mark was her brother.
The next day was the wedding, which was quite the event, if a little chaotic. Based on the night before, I couldn't wait to see Nancy. As we are mingling and waiting for the big wedding, there she was. I still remember the black dress with gold accents she was wearing; she looked beautiful.
After the ceremony, little did I know, but I was introduced to Nancy's entire family: her parents, her two sons, her brother and his fiancée, her nephews, her uncle, and her aunt. I think the only ones missing were her daughter and her other brother and his family. I had no worries, thinking we'd have fun, but I'd probably never see her again. Wrong. Nancy and I had a great evening at the reception. There was the usual drinking and dancing into the early morning.
Rob and Trisa celebrated their honeymoon with 60 of their closest friends on houseboats at Lake Billy Chinook for a week. I invited Nancy to go on the houseboat with me, not thinking she could or would take me up on the invite. But at the last minute, she said yes and brought along her 16-year-old son Cameron with her. All and all, we had an awesome week.
When the week-long party was over, I went back to Montana for the last load of stuff. Upon my return, I was homeless. Rob and Trisa invited me to stay with them, but I knew better than to move in with newlyweds and opted for a motel. Soon after, Nancy called me for a date and the rest is history. I moved in with her on a temporary basis until I bought a house. Well I bought the house and never moved in, and here we are.
