Jan 25, 2008: The Engagement by Nancy
I suggested to Rob, who'd been out of town all week, that we have a date night at a new Mexican place I'd been wanting to try. Unbeknownst to me as I was getting ready, Rob was in his office opening and closing the desk drawer and debating whether to take the engagement ring out or not. He'd almost left it there, only to go back, because I wasn't ready yet, and put the box in his pocket.
On the drive there, Rob said he wanted to have steak instead and we ended up at 541 instead. We walked into 541 and almost nobody was there. We were told there was a fundraiser that night, but they could seat us in the back dining room. Okay that was good.
As we ordered, the band started and they closed the doors. Nobody else was seated in the dining room. (Rob could not have planned it any better.) Dinner and wine were great.
Rob got up, came to my side of the table, and kneeled down on one knee. All he could get out was, "Will you be my wife?" and he didn't hear my yes answer as he was so nervous. I repeated, "Yes, I love you." (He was so cute.) The ring on my finger, he finally could talk again. He said he had so much to say about how he felt about me and us.
We danced, started making phone calls, and the planning began.
